Lesley explains in great detail the two therapies’ on offer today.
Auricular therapy, also known as Ear Reflexology, is based on the principle that the ears are micro-systems of the entire body. Like other forms of reflexology, the ear has specific points that correspond to parts of the body and by stimulating these points the body & natural healing response is encouraged. Records show that throughout history many Eastern cultures worked on the ears to promote health and well-being. Chinese Acupuncture uses many points on the ear and some of these are used in Auricular Reflexology. However, instead of using needles, the points are stimulated using finger, thumb pressure and sometimes a probe. Ear seeds are applied for further treatment at home.
Facial reflexology is a wonderfully relaxing treatment that has all the benefits of foot reflexology with the bonus of improving the appearance of the face. It promotes the production of new skin tissue and improves skin tone as well as relieving any tension in the face or jaw area. It can be very beneficial in treating migraines, tension in the jaw, sinus problems, bells palsy, insomnia, hormonal imbalances as well as relieving stress and anxiety.
Reflexology is safe for most people and Lesley will always conduct a full assessment before any treatment is started.
Review of the reflexology treatment:
Arriving at Lesley’s Newport home in Barnstaple there was a parking space waiting for me along with a very warm welcome from Lesley. I was shown into the therapy room which is on the ground floor, light, bright and modern, yet tranquil and calming at the same time. Lesley discussed my medical history with me, assessing what my particular needs are in order to tailor the session.
The treatment started with the ears, a lot can be discovered just by looking at a person’s ears… Specific areas applicable to my needs were identified and vaccaria seeds attached to the points with hypo-allergenic tape. I was advised to massage the seeds up to four times a day and that ideally they should remain in place for 4 days.
Moving on to facial reflexology. For this part of the treatment, I was asked to lie on the bed in the treatment room. I was covered with a cosy blanket to ensure I was toasty and warm during the treatment. There was relaxing music playing in the background and my face was cleansed to remove make up and a face oil was applied to enable facial massage/acupressure. Lesley uses products by Eve Taylor Aromatherapy Skin Care which contain essential oils and smell amazing. A lymph drainage massage was performed at the end of the treatment. I found the treatment very restorative and relaxing.
After the treatment I was given a glass of water and advice was given with regard to after care and possible effects that can vary from person to person.
